A Sound Bath Training Under Another Name
Most schools call a course like this a sound healing or sound bath training. Hamid's is called the Sound Practitioner Training because he does not call his own work sound healing, and the course explains why.
Online, it holds the whole of the Level I training he teaches in person. Some take it at home because two weekends away are not possible. Others take it to know the material before joining a group in a room.
It is written for yoga and meditation teachers bringing sound into classes they already lead, for bodyworkers adding sound to their sessions, and for anyone who wants to know what to do in front of a gong.
Sound bath, sound healing and gong bath: what each name means
What the Course Covers, in Order
14 modules and 31 lessons, over 20 hours in all. Everything opens the day you enroll, so you can take the lessons in any order.
The voice comes first. Vocalization, and a greeting sung together.
Then the science of sound: overtones and harmonics, which every bowl and gong is made of.
The gong is the longest lesson, in five videos.
Bells and bowls, metal and crystal, and chimes.
Percussion: frame and hand drums, rattles, rain sticks and ocean drums.
The Native American style flute.
The ideas under the practice: entrainment, spirituality, and the energetics of sound.
Overtone singing, with the shruti box and the voice together.
Sound meditation, how one is built and what it is for, with a demonstration.
Sound therapy, with a full one to one session shown from start to finish.
Listening and expressing: the art of mindful listening, and expressing yourself through sound.
A final lesson and a quiz close the course.
The full training manual comes with it, to download and keep. Each instrument has its own lesson, so you can start with the one you have. What to buy first has a guide of its own.
“The measure of a course like this is not what you heard while you were watching it. It is whether you can sit down in front of a gong on a Tuesday, on your own, and know what to do next.”

What You Can Do at the End
Lead a sound bath for a group, from the first sound to bringing the room back, and hold a one to one session for a single person.
Play the gong, metal and crystal bowls, bells and chimes, frame drum and rattles, the flute and the shruti box, and use your own voice with them.
Explain the science, the history and the music the work rests on, plainly enough to answer a participant's question honestly.
The Certificate, and the Yoga Alliance Hours
Finish the course and its assessment and you receive Sound Practitioner Level I certification. Like every certificate in this field, it is the school's own record that you completed the course and passed its assessment.
The course also carries 20 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education, for yoga teachers who keep those hours, with a certificate of its own once you pass the written evaluation.
At $298 it sits beside two courses of almost the same price, the Sound Healing Academy's Level 1 and Mehtab Benton's Gong Practitioner Level One. The comparison of trainings sets nine side by side, the Sound Practitioner Training (Hamid's own course) marked among them and every fact dated.

Questions Before You Enroll
What is a sound practitioner?
In Hamid's words: A sound practitioner holds space with sound, for a room of people or for one person at a time.
The course teaches both, the room and the single person.
Do I need to read music or sing well?
No. The course opens with the voice and starts from wherever yours is.
Do I need instruments before I start?
No. You can begin with one instrument and add to it as the lessons show you what each one does. What to buy first has its own guide.
How long does the course take?
Over 20 hours of lessons, at your own pace. Some people finish in a weekend and some take a year. Access does not run out.
What do I receive at the end?
Sound Practitioner Level I certification when you finish the course and its assessment, and a separate certificate for the 20 Yoga Alliance continuing-education hours when you pass the written evaluation.
Where do I log in after enrolling?
On FreshLearn, the platform the course runs on, at learn.hamidjabbar.com. Checkout is there too.
